Teaching Philosophy
The Guru-Shagird Tradition
Kashikari has never been taught from a textbook. It is passed hand to hand, eye to eye.
For centuries, the craft of Kashikari was transmitted through the guru-shagird relationship — master and apprentice, sharing a workshop, sharing a fire. The apprentice watched, then imitated, then was corrected, then learned.
Wajid teaches the same way. There are no shortcuts. You will learn to prepare clay with your hands, to feel when a consistency is right. You will learn to draw a geometric pattern until your hand does not need your eye. You will learn that a misjudged pigment weight cannot be corrected after firing.
What you take home from these workshops is not a tile. It is a fragment of a living tradition.

The 700-year history of Kashikari in Multan, the Thaheem family lineage, and the role of blue ceramic art in South Asian heritage architecture.
Material Knowledge
How red clay differs from China clay and why it matters. How to select, prepare, and form clay by hand.
Pattern Drawing
The geometric principles behind Islamic star patterns, arabesque florals, and the specific Multani tile design vocabulary.
Oxide Pigments
Understanding cobalt blue, tin white, copper turquoise, and manganese oxide — their chemical properties and how to apply them by hand without bleeding.
Glazing Technique
How clear glaze is applied to preserve pigment and produce the luminous finish that defines authentic Kashikari.
Kiln Process
Understanding firing temperatures, how the kiln transforms pigments and glaze, and how to assess a finished fired piece.
